TONY ORLANDO MARKS A DECADE AS NEW YORK HOST
OF JERRY LEWIS MDA LABOR DAY TELETHON BROADCAST

TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 23, 2007 — Famed entertainer Tony Orlando will serve for the tenth year in a row as host of the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon at its New York City broadcast site.

Orlando, whose hits such as “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree” and “Knock Three Times” were top songs of the year in the 1970s, has been a Telethon host and guest entertainer for nearly 30 years.

Most recently, Orlando has been in the news because he lost more than 100 pounds by using the NutriSystem weight loss program.

On stage with Orlando during the Telethon will be sports anchor Russ Salzberg and field reporter Giovanna Drpic from My 9 WWOR-TV. Performing artists will include Benny King and Melba Moore.

Orlando is one of only a handful of entertainers who have performed with Telethon star Jerry Lewis. As an up and coming young performer, Lewis was his idol and mentor, and he said he has made his Telethon appearances his way of acknowledgment and thanks.

The Telethon airs from 9 p.m. ET on Sept. 2 to 6:30 p.m. Sept 3. MDA’s “Love Network” of 190 television stations, including WWOR in New York, relays the show to nearly 50 million viewers in the United States and Canada. Real Networks, on the Internet at www.mda.org, reaches additional millions around the globe.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education. The Association’s programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors, many of whom are Telethon viewers.
