SOUTHERN CALIFORNIANS
ELECTED AS MDA LEADERS
TUCSON, Ariz., July 9, 2004 — Robert M. Bennett, owner and founder
of Bennett Productions Inc. of Los Angeles, has been re-elected chairman
of the Board of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Bennett, a resident of Newport Beach, was chosen for the position for
the tenth consecutive year by the MDA Board of Directors during its
recent annual meeting in Los Angeles.
Bennett is former chairman of the board of Transatlantic Entertainment
Inc. of Los Angeles, and former president of Metromedia Broadcasting.
A volunteer national leader of MDA since the late 1960s, he’s
been a member of the Association’s Board of Directors since 1981.
Elected to a first term on the MDA Board was David L. Hutton of Granada
Hills, Calif. Hutton is President of Miller Automotive Group, a Van
Nuys-based group of eight auto dealerships in the Los Angeles area.
Hutton is a 30-year veteran of the automotive retail industry, and previously
served as an MDA National Vice President.
Joining Bennett in re-election as an MDA officer is Timmi Masters, a
Beverly Hills community leader, who was elected to a 14th one-year term
as secretary of the Association. She has served as a director since
1979.
Also re-elected to one-year terms as Board members are celebrities Ed
McMahon, Jann T. Carl and Maureen McGovern.
McMahon, who lives in Beverly Hills, is a well-known television personality
and longtime anchor of the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon.
Carl, of Pasadena, is a correspondent and weekend anchor for television’s
“Entertainment Tonight,” She’s co-hosted the Telethon
since 1996.
McGovern, a noted singer and performer in stage musicals, recordings
and symphony orchestra concerts, was named to her second term on MDA’s
Board. She’s also chairperson of MDA’s Shamrocks Against
Dystrophy program, and performs virtually every year on the MDA Telethon.

essential to the success of the Association’s effort to find treatments
and cures for neuromuscular diseases.”
The Board members are joined by 12 other prominent Southern Californians
who were elected MDA national vice presidents. Vice presidents provide
counsel in their areas of expertise and assist MDA through advocacy
and staunch support of its lifesaving programs and activities.
Newly elected MDA vice presidents are Frank Di Bella of Whittier and
Lon Rosenberg of La Mirada. Di Bella is a certified public accountant
for Frank Di Bella Accountancy Corp., and served as a MDA vice president
from 1998 to 2000. Rosenberg is director of Stadium Operations for the
Los Angeles Dodgers.
Those re-elected to one-year terms as MDA vice presidents are:
- Don E. Corsini, president and general manager of KCAL-TV, Los Angeles;
comedian Norm Crosby of Los Angeles, also a Telethon co-host;
- W. King Engel, M.D., of Los Angeles, professor of neurology and
pathology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine,
and director of the Jerry Lewis MDA/ALS Clinical and Research Center
at USC; TV personality Cynthia Garrett of Beverly Hills;
- Broadcasting personality Casey Kasem of Los Angeles; TV personality
Larry King of Beverly Hills; Sebastian Paul Musco of Newport Beach,
chairman of the Board of Gemini Industries of Santa Ana;
- Entertainer Charo Rasten of Beverly Hills; Charles D. Schoor of
Valley Village, a partner in the law firm of Blue & Schoor of
Los Angeles; and Dave G. Simonson of Claremont, president of the Southern
California Region of Albertson's.
MDA is working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular
diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive
services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
MDA maintains 235 clinics nationwide. The Association maintains MDA/ALS
centers for research and treatment of Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon will be broadcast Sept. 5-6, originating
from CBS Television City in Hollywood.
