SERVICES SLATED MONDAY
FOR MDA AMBASSADOR MATTIE STEPANEK

Who: Mattie Stepanek, National Goodwill Ambassador of the Muscular Dystrophy Association

What: Services for 13-year-old Mattie, who died June 22 from complications of a neuromuscular disease

When: Sunday-Monday, June 27-28

Where: Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 11801 Claridge Road, Wheaton, Md., and the public is invited.

Services, including a Mass of Christian Burial, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine Laboure. Seating is extremely limited because of the large number of invited guests.

From the church, Mattie will be transported by fire truck to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, where he’ll be buried alongside his three siblings.

Why: Mattie was a world-renowned poet as well as MDA’s national spokesperson. Thousands of friends, including celebrities, families served by MDA, fire fighters, Harley-Davidson riders, and others touched by his words and his heroism, are expected to attend.

Mattie's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the MDA Mattie Fund online or P.O. Box 66002, Tucson, AZ 85728.
