JERRY LEWIS TELETHON JOINS TALENT SEARCH

TUCSON, Ariz., July 1, 2003 – In keeping with the popularity of
talent search shows like “American Idol” and “Fame,”
the 2003 Jerry Lewis Muscular
Dystrophy Association Telethon is looking for new talent to present
on its legendary Labor Day weekend broadcast.
Singers, dancers, comedians, bands and novelty acts are among the performers
MDA is seeking in its “Stars Across America” talent search.
Those selected will appear live on the Telethon on Monday, Sept. 1,
from Hollywood, New York, Chicago and other remote locations. The show
draws some 60 million viewers, plus millions more on the Internet.
“Over the years, our Telethon has showcased many up-and-coming
performers, and I’m thrilled that shows like ‘American Idol,’
‘Fame,’ ‘Star Search’ and ‘Nashville Star’
are helping keep that tradition alive,” said Telethon star and
MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis. “I’m very excited that
this year’s Telethon will give some of the stars of tomorrow a
great opportunity to be seen by millions, while helping ‘my kids.’”
MDA’s 38th annual Telethon will be broadcast live beginning at
9 p.m. EDT on Aug. 31.
To audition, send a VHS-format videotape of your performance (no more
than 4 minutes) to: Jerry Lewis MDA Talent Search 2003, 7800 Beverly
Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036. Tapes must be received by July 22.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to provide their own
music (live or pre-recorded) both for rehearsal and during the show
itself.
Funds raised by the Telethon help support services and research for
people affected by more than 40 neuromuscular diseases.
