HEARTSONGS GALA TO BENEFIT MDA
Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, Washington, D.C.
Feb. 15, 2003
MDA National Goodwill Ambassador Mattie
Stepanek’s life philosophy is: “Remember to play after
every storm.” To honor this spirit, three MDA offices in the Washington–Baltimore
area have joined to create the Heartsong Awards, to
be given to people who exemplify that philosophy in their support of
MDA.
At the Heartsongs Gala on Feb. 15, the 2003 Heartsong Awards
recipients will be Harold Schaitberger, general president of
the International Association of Fire Fighters, a leading MDA sponsor;
MDA-supported molecular geneticist Eric Hoffman, director of the Center
for Genetic Medicine at the Children’s National Medical Center
in Washington; and veteran entertainer and Telethon Anchor Ed McMahon.
McMahon is a member of MDA’s Board of Directors and Schaitberger
is an MDA vice president.
The black-tie event will include a cocktail reception, silent and live
auctions, roving entertainment and an appearance by Mattie.
Chris Cuomo of ABC News will be the evening’s emcee, and Tom
Kelly of Big 100 Radio is the event chairman. Kelly is also an emcee
of the MDA Telethon broadcast on WB50 in Washington.
Honorary chairpeople include several members of Congress, talk show
host Larry King, entertainer Christopher Cross and Marvin Lewis of the
Washington Redskins.
