Brad Stephenson, 40, is dedicated to advancing research and therapies for neuromuscular diseases worldwide. Stephenson currently serves on the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) at the National Institutes of Health. He previously served on the Muscular Dystrophy Coordinating Committee at the National Institutes of Health from 2003 to 2008. He also serves on the advisory board of Texans for the Advancement of Medical Research, a group dedicated to promoting stem cell research to advance medicine.

An attorney, Stephenson currently focuses his legal work in the areas of probate law and estate planning. Prior to law school, Stephenson worked as a U.S. government instructor at Tarrant County College; as an account executive for Dublin & Associates, a respected San Antonio public relations firm; and as a research analyst for The Tarrance Group, one of the top political research firms in the nation.

He has been active within the MDA community, especially in the areas of national advocacy and health policy, and has actively lobbied for increased federal emphasis on muscular dystrophy research since 1997. He worked to secure a hearing on muscular dystrophy before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions in 2001, and lobbied members of Congress and President George W. Bush to enact the MD-CARE Act in 2001, and to reauthorize it in 2008.

Stephenson enjoys gardening, guitar, travel, history, architecture, poetry, art, games, swimming and adaptive sports. He lives in San Antonio with his wife, Kristin, and their two daughters, Ramsey and Georgia. Stephenson received a diagnosis of Becker muscular dystrophy in 1985. In 2006, he was the recipient of the MDA Personal Achievement Award for Texas.
