| Health Care Reform: What's In It For You |
The MDA community, like the nation as a whole, is split over the impact of health care reform. Many members of the community are thrilled and excited about the new provisions, while others worry that costs will rise at the same time as services are reduced.
As a nonpartisan organization, MDA did not take a position for or against any version of the proposed overall health care bills. However, we did engage in discussions surrounding some aspects of the health care changes, and supported elements of the proposed bills that served to protect members of the MDA community or to expand clinical care resources.

| NIH-FDA Leadership Council Announced |
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced plans to establish a Joint NIH-FDA Leadership Council. The goal of this council is to decrease the time it takes to move promising therapies through the regulatory process and deliver them into the hands of patients in the community. The Joint Council will include six senior scientists representing both the NIH and FDA.

MDA's social networking Web site, myMDA, provides people with muscle diseases, their families, friends and caregivers a means to share experiences, exchange helpful tips and resources, and cultivate new friendships. Our e-community continues to grow and — more than ever — individuals are utilizing message boards, blogs, chats, and comments to express their views on a host of issues.
