MDA was founded in 1950 on the belief that ‘there is no such thing as an incurable disease, but rather, only diseases for which cures are yet to be found’. To that end, MDA launched an unparalleled effort to find treatments and cures for the muscular dystrophies and related diseases within the MDA family, while also ensuring that those served by the Association had access to the most comprehensive and aggressive services available. Since 1950, MDA’s commitment to this mission has been unwavering and has been achieved through the raising of both funds and awareness for these diseases.

Founded by a group of families affected by neuromuscular disease, MDA’s strength continues to be in our grassroots to global reach through the MDA family.
