
Sledding on Hillcrest by William Titus William was a licensed surveyor and founded his own surveying business. Upon his retirement in 1995, he began painting. His subjects were “vintage Watchung sites” and many of his paintings are on display at the Watchung Police Station. This artwork recalls William and his teenage friends sledding on Hillcrest Road in Watchung around 1949. This artwork was featured in the MDA 2003 Holiday Wishes card collection.

Snow Owl by Karen Wheeler Karen received a master’s degree in art from California State University, Fullerton, with an emphasis in illustration. She has exhibited her work in Las Vegas galleries and has collectors around the world. Karen's favorite subjects are animals, and she hides a rose in every painting. The rose represents Karen. She selected it as an object that is easily accepted by others.

Square Curly Ash Bowl by Thomas Mumper After retiring from a gunpowder manufacturing firm, Tom began to fine-tune his wood crafting skills. Using a chainsaw, bandsaw, a lathe and disc sander, he has crafted thousands of bowls, vases, lamps and platters from hunks from wood. Tom uses wood from oak, maple, cherry, and other local trees, and even has used wood he brought home from a trip to Australia. Tom exhibits his works at two major shows a year in Delaware.

Stargazer by Dorothy O'Brien Dorothy received a master’s degree in library science and retired from her career of 25 years as a medical librarian. She painted off and on for 20 years. Dorothy was the Oregon state recipient of the Robert Ross MDA Personal Achievement Award in 2008. In addition to painting, her hobbies included reading and researching medical questions.

StarS Over Harbor by Kenneth Turner Kenneth created artwork for more than 25 years. He taped his paintbrush to his fingers and developed a unique method of painting. Kenneth used Velcro and clamps to hold his paper or canvas onto a lazy Susan which then turned as he painted.

Still Life by William Bill Rinaldi Bill was involved in politics for many years, and his paintings have been exhibited in the Lackawanna Arts Festival. He was a noted writer, having published his autobiography in 2001, and one of his plays was produced by the Scranton Public theatre. In 1993 Bill received the MDA Personal Achievement Award for Pennsylvania.

STS 63 and Me by Ken Jasch Ken experienced the STS-63 Discovery space shuttle night launch on February 3, 1995. This artwork began as a photograph that was digitally enhanced to express the stages of space flights as they move heavenward. Ken received the 1994 State Personal Achievement Award for Illinois and is a former member of MDA’s National Task Force on Public Awareness.

Summer Camp in the City by Various Artists "Summer Camp in the City" was created by 60 youngsters attending an MDA sponsored summer camp in Center Moriches, N.Y., in August of 1999. The 4' x 6' masterpiece was completed in several hours under the guidence of Charles Fazzino, a world renowned 3-D pop artist. The campers named their favorite New York City attractions which Fazzino then created. The campers drew self-portraits for inclusion in the mural and helped color some of the work.

Summer Sun by Jean Watson Jean was a member of the Duluth Art Institute and the Very Special Arts, Minnesota. She has studied at the Minneapolis Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited at the Art Institute member shows and the Sister Kenny Institute International Art Shows where she received a Best in Show in 1991. Along the shores of Lake Superior one can enjoy the sound of waves breaking over the rocks, the sun's shimmer and the refreshing breeze.

Summertime at Camp Maria by Darren Guest Darren has been painting and drawing since the age of 6. He attended the Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson, MD, where he received several awards at exhibits, and he is currently attending the Zoll Studio of Fine Art in Timonium, MD. He also enjoys spending time with his family and playing video games and going to movies. Darren has many memories of attending MDA summer camp and particularly enjoyed the pool, watergun fights, fishing and meeting fellow campers and counselors.

Sunset at Camp Marie by Matthew Murdock Mathew’s artwork depicts a sunset at Camp Marie in Leonardtown, Maryland, home of the local MDA summer camp. Mathew’s hobbies included music and writing poetry. He collaborated over the Internet with a writer from Wisconsin and together they published a work of poetry called “The Move.”

Sunset Dip by Luke Christie Luke served as MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador in 2006 and 2007, and appeared with his family on the Telethon for three years. In high school he was an honor student and a reporter for the school newspaper. Luke is majoring in communications studies at Furman University and is active in DECA and Kappa Alpha. He is an Eagle Scout and continues to represent MDA as the National Youth Chairman.

Supercalifragilizard by Nicholas Olson Nicholas created this artwork at age 10. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed politics and current events. He also visited local nursing homes with his service dog, Henry, offering companionship to residents. Nicholas and his sister, Aubrey, served as MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassadors in 1998 and 1999, and traveled around the country speaking on behalf of the Association.
