She enjoys painting and sketching and has participated in a number of art exhibits. She has also written and published literature.

When I Grow Up by Mariana Krawczak Marianna created this artwork at age eight and won numerous awards for her drawings, including being chosen in a national contest for a calendar. She liked animals a lot and usually used them in her work.

White Barn by James Johnson Jim received a bachelor’s degree in art from Greenville College (Ill.). He was the art director at Regular Baptist Press in Schaumburg, Ill., prior to his retirement. Although Jim painted for many years, he is no longer able to hold a paintbrush and work on canvases. This piece was drawn using Photoshop CS3 from a photograph of the original barn. He has illustrated many barns and is now drawing houses using the computer.

Winter Sepia Gold by Carl Yeager Carl has been taking photos since 1972. His technique has evolved from traditional film photography processes to using software for cropping, tonal control, color mixing and other effects with scanned images. Although he uses a tracheostomy tube, Carl spends 95 percent of his field time by himself and uses a tripod to keep the camera steady.

Won't Back Down, 9-11 by Jan Blaustone Jan, who holds a B. A. in English from California State University, Sacramento, has received awards for photography and painting. She has also authored numerous articles and two books, and is a member of the MDA National Task Force on Public Awareness. Jan was named the 2001 MDA National Personal Achievement Award recipient. This painting was created after Jan, herself a former fire fighter, saw a photo taken through a window showing firefighters working through the rubble at the World Trade Center on 9-11. Creating this beautiful artwork helped her with her own healing following the tragic event.

Woods by James D'Avanzo James studied design at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield University and the Creative Arts Workshop. His computer art creations have appeared in the “National Association of Desktop Publishers Journal” and “Computer Graphics World” magazine. In the summer of 1995 three of his prints, including "Woods," were exhibited at CompUSA on Fifth Avenue in New York. This work was featured in the 1996 MDA Holiday Wishes card collection.

Young Jerry by Tommy Roberts Tommy began creating art in childhood. He has a bachelor’s degree from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore. He is well known in the Baltimore and Washington areas for his exceptional work. Tommy has the ability to capture his subject’s emotion and character as seen in this portrait of Jerry Lewis who Tommy watched in movies in the 1960s and 1970s. He has three other pieces in the MDA Art Collection.

Zeeland by Dwain Smith Dwain has been painting for many years, and worked as a goldsmith and silversmith for 20 years. He was fortunate to visit Zeeland, located in southwest Netherlands, as winter was morphing into spring. Dwain used a heavy impasto underpainting denoting the spring winds and the earth erupting with a full bounty of blooming bulbs. He is a member of the Paducah Area Painters Alliance and exhibits works in their co-op gallery in Paducah.
